A Sudoku a Day

from: Wira Nuradli

So you're a Sudoku addict. Perhaps you've had one too many close encounters with your boss on playing Sudoku on the sly. Or perhaps you've missed one too many appointments because you just couldn't put the latest Sudoku puzzle down unfinished. If you live and breathe Sudoku, tell your loved ones not to fret. It's actually good for you.

Sudoku is one addiction that is actually beneficial. Well, beneficial to one's brain, that is. In an independent study of a science journal, having daily Sudoku doses ranks along with ten other non-traditional factors for boosting brain power.

Better than a measly apple

Other factors that don't involve traditional education which boosts brain power are listening to classical music, eating high protein food and getting sufficient sleep and rest.

Some tests have also shown that incorporating daily Sudoku doses into everyday routine helps prevent and even stall the onslaught of Alzheimer's disease. So the next time you get chastised for playing too much Sudoku, tell them that you're only trying to get smarter while preventing the dreading Alzheimer's.

Bring your brain to the gym

But how does it actually work? Well Sudoku is a puzzle which entails concentration, logic and common sense. The more you utilize these skills, the better work out it is for your brain. Just like your body needs exercise, your brain needs daily workout too to keep in shape and ward off brain defects that come with the passage of time.

What's more is that it is said that no matter what educational level one has achieved or how much education they have, IQ can always be increased through mental workouts much like a daily Sudoku dose.

Core curriculum

Because of the benefits of playing daily Sudoku puzzles are very beneficial to one's brain and IQ, it follows that children should also be encouraged to work on these puzzles. Develop concentration and logical reasoning in children by getting them daily Sudoku doses. Some schools have even adopted Sudoku as part of their classes to stimulate the brain.

Daily Sudoku doses

Actually, now that you know how good Sudoku really is for your brain and it is not just a means to pass away idle time, why not get serious and find fresh sources of daily Sudoku puzzles to work on everyday. Remember to balance Sudoku solving with the rest of your life and you should be fine. You'll come off the experience with higher IQ and better clarity of mind while continuing to live a full life.
